Wimbledon Embraces Video Challenge Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.

Replay technology will be launched at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors are granted the ability to challenge certain rulings from the official, echoing the practice currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step comes just a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line judges.

Scope of Challenges

Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to re-examine specific decisions, including:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
  • Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there will be no cap on the amount of reviews a competitor can ask for.

A Recent Example

A recent incident took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."

The umpire watched a replay and determined the player was guilty of interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.

Further Updates

A further innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This solves instances where the crowd have occasionally been unsure if a ball was in or out.

Finally, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
