Police reported they were notified by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then found many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials say early analysis show the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for details.

A senior official said the attack left him without words and had to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
